Invasion of the European River Lamprey Lampetra fluviatilis in the Upper Volga

چکیده

The European river lamprey came to the Upper Volga from Baltic Sea most probably via a system of shipways developed in 18th and 19th centuries. Vyshnii Volochek, Tikhvin, Mariinskaya water systems are possible invasion pathways for this species. Dispersal colonization Caspian Basin was likely combination upstream downstream migrations. Analysis museum our own samples showed that possibly migrated (for spawning) along rivers until they reached watershed boundary which could disperse (in juvenile period) into Basin. River occur accordance with migration cycle opportunistic species lead present distribution. Key features (dentition number trunk myomeres) studied area similar lampreys basin, although specimens each population have their peculiarities morphology (size coloration). Genetic data (Cyt-b) support idea relatively recent Volga. haplotype, found three rivers, is one widespread Europe supposed route invasion.

Developing microbial spoilage population in vacuum-packaged charcoal-broiled European river lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis).

Microbiological and sensory changes in vacuum-packaged charcoal-broiled river lampreys from three lamprey processing plants were monitored as a function of time at 8 degrees C. The lampreys were examined every 7 days up to 8 weeks for aerobic plate count (APC) and lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The highest mean APC and LAB were 6.01 log CFU/g and 4.86 log CFU/g, respectively. Only 6 out of 15 lots...

Measurement of single nephron filtration rate in the kidney of the river lamprey, Lampetra fluviatilis L.

1. The reliability of [3H]inulin as a reference substance for the measurement of glomerular filtration rate (GFR) in river lampreys was investigated. 2. Simultaneously measured renal clearances of [3H]inulin and [14C]-polyethylene glycol (PEG) were not significantly different. 3. Recoveries of [3H]inulin in the urine following its injection into the proximal tubule and urinary duct averaged 83....

Localization of ion-transport in the intestine of the migrating river lamprey, Lampetra fluviatilis L.

The intestine of the river lamprey, like that of teleosts, plays a major role in marine osmoregulation (Morris, 1958; Pickering & Morris, 1970). Monovalent ions from the ingested hyperosmotic environment can be transported across the intestine against a concentration gradient ultimately producing a net water flux from the gut lumen to the bloodstream. This water movement compensates for renal a...

A micropuncture study of kidney function in the river lamprey Lampetra fluviatilis adapted to sea water.

Micropuncture techniques have been used to investigate kidney function in lampreys adapted to hyperosmotic media. Plasma electrolyte concentrations were maintained well below corresponding concentrations in the external environment. Urine composition was variable, but generally showed high concentrations of magnesium, sulphate and chloride ions. Lampreys in 50% sea water produced urine which wa...
